Bringing Ornament Into Contemporary Architecture
During a University of Houston Study Abroad program, I visited many Central European countries where I was able to observe and admire the architecture. Based on this, my research project focuses on comparing and contrasting buildings with and without ornament in hopes to one day reintroduce it to contemporary architecture.
"Creation of Ornament" is a video showing how ornament is created on plain-looking facades of buildings through the use of 3D models and photo and video editing software. The ornament is based on the existing concept/purpose of each building. The video strives to animate the first stanza of the manifesto shown above.
“Simplicity” is a satirical video stating that all ornament should be removed, even existing ornament, in order to encourage creativity through bleakness. It is used to aid my essay which aims to show that there is currently a general fear of ornament that may be subliminal and must be overcome.
